Jim Stoy's Brazed "Bicycle"
The "Bicycle" rides beautifully. It's fitted with 28 mm tires to give a compliant but grippy ride. It's been as fast as 35 MPH, and the pilot must relax on the bars to avoid twitchiness, but it's stable if ridden properly. It's surprisingly stable in fast bumpy corners. Must be the steel fork & relaxed geometry...I have ridden to the top of Mount Tamalpias once and about 200 miles overall. The bike's not "fast" per se, but it isn't sluggish either. It encourages a less aggressive riding attitude than my other bikes. Just what I wanted, actually!
Oh....Paint by Stoy -- rattle-can. Pretty good for under $30, huh? Graphics by SuzieQ (a good deal...under $50 for three sets). Got the seat post for $5.00 at reCycle in San Rafael, CA. Good things come to those who scrounge. Pump is a Performance Hurricane, and more rattle-can paint. Salsa stem, more paint. Nitto bars, Brooks saddle, 105 drive train & Ultegra hubs. Ah! And salmon brake pads!
Thanks to one and all for the experience, the new know-how, the friendship and one of the best vacations in memory.
