Subject: Creaking BB

I know NO ONE has ever had this problem before :-) ... but I have a creaking sound that comes from my BB under heavy load, e.g. climbing. It is one of two things: a dissimiliar metals rubbing together under stress (crankarm to spindle) or the cups of the BB. The BB is a last generation (not the new 10 spd stuff) Shimano Ultegra 9spd.

I have...

Lubed the spindle ends and inside of the crankarms copiously with (separate occasions, no mixing here) lithium grease and also tried antiseize. I have done same to the thread body of the BB area of my Ti frame with both of those chemicals as well.

I torque acc'd to Barnetts.

I get 250ish miles after a BB lube-fest and then creaking under stress starts growing in volume until I go nuts enough to re-lube.

I am considering using some teflon plummer's tape on this next go round.

Anyone have advice on 'surefire ways to eliminate BB creakage' or thoughts/opinions on the plummer's tape attempt to fix?

Thanks all!!!

Jim Preis
