Message: This morning I shifted my Ultegra rear derailleur up to the 7th cog, as I caught a nice tail wind. As I approached a stop light, I tried downshifting to the 5. The large shift lever just pivoted, not pulling any cable or providing any tension. I knew the cable was not broken, as the derailleur was still on the 7th cog. I put some tension on the inner lever to see if it would shift to a smaller cog. While I didn't complete the shift, it did feel like I could have shifted to the smaller cog. I rode about 1/4 mile and felt the bike shift to a different cog. When I tried to use the outer lever again, it worked fine. Is this an indication that the lever is going bad, or could there be another problem? Could it be a housing / cable problem? Thanks.
