Yes, it should be easy to fix -- I presume by 18-speed you mean 3x6 rather than 2x9 ... is that right? Regardless, if you bought the bike locally, you should bring it back to have it "fixed." The rear derailleur probably needs to be adjusted (something you should learn to do at some point, BTW).
