Message: My '96 (8 speed) solid core Dura Ace crank fractured after 3 1/2 years of fairly gentle use (no racing, but 28,000 miles). The fracture began on the inside edge of the right crank, and propogated to the outer edge. Has anyone else seen this occur. If the solid crank can fracture after such a short time, how about the hollow core current model? I'm ready to upgrade components (but wanted to put the old D/A on my beater bike). I'm concerned whether the new D/A has sufficient long-term fatigue endurance. (Not sure I do either!)
