Message: >I bought a Manitou Magnum R fork with my new bike. My question is whether it is possible to substitute marine grease for Prep M or 5 weight car oil for the TPC Sport fluid. Would marine grease even work for the springs where you need heavier grease. Also, what chemicals hurt the nylon, teflon, or plastic parts within the fork. I know I'm cheap, you don't have to tell me. Would white lithium grease work instead of Prep M lubricant? Help me out here.88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 Ok, you need to use the Prep M. Yes it costs a bit more, but it will keep your fork working the very best it can. DON'T use lithium grease on it, that will kill your bushings. Just get a tube of Prep M. It's cheaper than having to replace your fork! Plus it will work better. Promise. The one thing you could use instead, is pure 100% food grade silicon grease. You can get it at any dive shop. It's an O-ring Lube. It actually works quite well, but prep m is better!
