Message: >I've posted a question on wheel lacing here before and stubled across another one:>What does it mean to have a 2X or 3X cross lacing? >Apart from radial and cross lacing, are there other purposefull types of lacing? (not just to be eyecatching) 2x & 3x stand for how many times a spoke "crosses" another spoke. 3x is typical, radial saves marginal weight but, I personaly thinks it's industry eye-catching hype trash. If your still unclear on what I mean by "cross" I'll try to further explain: When lacing a wheel you usually start by lacing all of the "heads-up"(spoke head in hub flange) or "heads-down" spokes on a particular side of the wheel first. (except the first two, anyway) When lacing the next series of spokes(lacing pattern dictating) your going to have to "cross" or "weave" them through the previous set, hence the term "cross". And as for other lacing patterns, I imagine there nearly infinite. It all really depends on what the wheel is being used for, and what key factors will be defining it. I.E.:weight, discs, non-disc, drive, non-drive...etc. have fun.
