>.....I don't know about bigger diameter,but if you look at the surface the bears against the dropout,there should be a circular sharp ridge or some sort of knurling that causes it to get a grip on the dropout. Sometimes the locknut gets reversed when servicing the hubs,which presents the wrong surface to the dropout.A nut with a better ripping surface is one answr, assuming there is not some other cause of the slippage. Ti skewers can sometimes be the cause of the problem too.
Thanks for help, I filed about .005 in off the inside of the frame and found new locknuts at bike shop that had a larger grip surface. Seems to have corrected the problem
