Message: Hello, Here's the scoop.I converted an old touring bike to a cyclocross bike and swapped my Suntour downtube shifters out w/ Ultegra barcons. I had this done professionally at my LBS and b/c the rear derailler was an old Suntour XC long cage they could only set the right shifter too friction. Anyway I wanted to try the index since I never had this befor and it seams like it would be better so I bought a Deore XT derailur and btw new wheels mavic/deore hubs and an 8 speed 12-32 cassette. Before that I had a 7 speed sachs. So I set all this up and it shifted fine on my work bench but than on my Saturday race I found that I coul shift up in the 12 to 32 direction just fine but going the other way I could only shift two clicks. In other words if I clicked one down nothing happens but two clicks would jump the gear down two cogs. So I would have to click down twice than once up real fast to get the gear I wanted. Do I need more or less links on my chain. I played with the tension screw adjuster and that doesnt seem to work. Anyway any suggestions would be great else b4 next race it goes back to the LBS.
