7-speed freewheels use "ultra" spacing meaning that they are only a little wider than a 6-speed freewheel (about 1 cog thickness or about 2mm). So there should be no problems with the SR handling the travel.

If the SR has problems getting to the smallest cog, you can put a washer/spacer between the hanger and derailer as Al described. But what I would do instead is add a washer/spacer to the freewheel side of the axle to move the freewheel more inboard.
